About SYNBIOS and the syngas route to automotive biofuelsStudies have shown that thermal gasification - the syngas route - is the most energy and cost-effective way of producing automotive biofuels. The process is flexible - several fuels can be produced from biomass. The most promising of these for a sustainable transport sector in the future are H2 (hydrogen), FTD (Fischer -Tropsch Diesel, also called BTL, -Biomass-To-Liquids), DME (Dimethyl ether) and methanol.
At the first Synbios conference we learned about the potential oil-price rise as well as the efficiency advantages and resource-base for second generation biofuels. Since then the oil price has indeed doubled. Policies and industrial strategies to increase the use of biofuels have evolved. During the coming conference, the co-evolution of different policies and industrial strategies will be reviewed. Technological achievements will get attention and the potential synergies of fuel- and engine-development will be a further issue.
Welcome to join Synbios II in Stockholm this coming spring! Tomas Kåberger, Moderator. |
